Behavioral Discipline
Love and prevention are better motives to good behavior than fear and punishment. Moreover, when there is a reason for punishment, the purpose is not merely to make the delinquent suffer, but rather to lead him to correction and purpose of amendment. Experience shows that this method of discipline in education is much more successful in helping a child acquire virtue and overcome vice because it is animated wholly by divine charity and mercy, following the example of Christ Himself.
Character training is an important element of education at Notre Dame de La Salette Boys Academy. Loyalty, respect, and good manners, as well as immediate, cheerful cooperation, are expected from all students at all times.
The general rule for students' dress is modesty and appropriateness. The school uniform is mandatory as described in the School Uniform Requirements section of the registration packet.
Students are responsible for the physical condition, neatness, and cleanliness of their possessions and rooms. No food may be kept in students' rooms. Parents are asked to refrain from sending parcels with lots of sweets.
In order to avoid temptation, students should not keep too much pocket money in their rooms. Those who wish may entrust the school office with their money.
Students will not have electronic games; radio, ipod or tape/cd players; books, magazines, pictures, comics, letters, notes, etc. of an immoral content; any drugs or alcoholic beverages; any tobacco product or smoking utensil, including matches, lighters, lighter fluid and the like. There will be no chewing gum on school grounds.
All absences from school (e.g., for funerals, weddings, etc.) must be arranged in advance with the Headmaster. Boarders may call their parents once a week during the designated telephone times. Parents and guardians may call the office and leave a message for students to call if necessary.
Discipline, when necessary, will be administered in various ways, for the punishment must fit the crime. Discipline will correspond to the nature of the offense committed, its frequency, and its deliberation. In addition, the method of discipline will be chosen suited to the dispositions and character of the individual student.
